Professional Communication Services may be required

Speech-Language Pathology Services

A person may require Speech-Language Pathology services if:

  • They have no reliable way of communicating 
  • They have complex communication needs 
  • They have no trusted person to assist them with communication
  • There is a perceived conflict or question about the authenticity of the person assisting them to communicate
  • If there any question of coercion, persuasion or abuse of power 
  • The decision has serious consequences such as in medical assistance in dying or a justice setting
  • If the professional evaluating their capacity has no qualifications or experience in the accommodating their communication support needs
