Pictures

Pictures can be useful to support people who have communication disabilities to complete the communication access survey.

To support people who have difficulty understanding spoken language, you may want to:

  • Reword the survey question in a way they understand
  • Use short, simple sentences
  • While speaking, use gestures, written key words, drawings and pictures
  • Explain the concept and/ or the picture, using different language or a different way of representing the concept

To support people to communicate their responses, you may want to:

  • Print the pages that correspond to the survey questions
  • Use individual pictures if it is easier for the person to focus on a few pictures at a time
  • Provide multiple-choice pictures or written words that the person can use to answer the survey questions

You may also want to provide the person with these vocabularies to program into their device or include on their communication boards
